A few pictures from our trip to Texas

In this post I talked about our trip to Texas, when Josh went to Dallas for two weeks to train for his new job and Carson and I went to Houston to stay with my family. It was a great trip (and the best part was the weekend when Josh and I got to be together), and I just wanted to post these few pictures.

My mom got this baby pool before we came, and Carson really liked swimming in it. We probably swam almost every day we were there. Carson does like the water.

Carson liked swinging in this baby swing in the backyard, too.

And just some general Carson cuteness.

Remember I talked about how we went to the beach? This is his post-beach hair. :)

And finally, a precious mother/son moment. Cuddly moments like this with Carson are rare, and they usually don’t last more than about 15 seconds. But it’s sure nice when he does cuddle for a bit. :)

Letters for Carson’s room

In Texas I started this craft for Carson’s room: wooden letters to spell his name. (Thanks for the materials, Mom!) I had wanted to make something like this since before Carson was born but never got around to it. It’s so good to finally get it done!

I’m really happy with the way it turned out. I thought about doing a few different things (baby-themed scrapbook paper, painted patterns) but finally settled on a collage from magazine pictures because we already had them and I love collaging anyway. And I think he could kind of grown into them, too, since they’re not super babyish.

Zoo day

A few weeks ago Carson and I went to the zoo with a play group from the ward. It was his first time at a zoo! We had fun, but I’d like to go again as part of a group with maybe more younger kids, like Carson’s age, so we could focus more on the areas that Carson found interesting. Also he wasn’t up for more than about an hour and a half there, but it was fun while it lasted. Mostly we liked the monkeys because they were easy for Carson to see and because they were indoors so I let Carson get down and look up against the glass. He really liked that.

Heading into the zoo!

We loved the monkeys. And this was the “after” face, when Carson was definitely ready to go home:

Moving

Here are just a few pictures from moving. Not a ton; we were pretty busy packing, loading, finding a house, and being a little stressed through all this. But it was fun, too. Not so fun that we want to move again anytime soon, but perhaps someday…

Carson’s moving week injury. Josh and I were busy packing and not watching as he tried to pull himself up to stand next to an empty bookcase. One of the shelves came down and hit his face. :( Poor guy.

All our stuff…remembering back, now, it was kind of a fun adventurous week, with all of our stuff in a big pile, lots of boxes, eating Brick Oven pizza on the floor of our living room after we loaded the truck…good times. One of the best parts was spending so much time together as a family (and couple) as we worked.

Turns out moving week is pretty fun for kids (at least Carson). Who doesn’t love all those boxes?

This is the morning before we left, the morning we loaded the trailer.

…and this is how we kept Carson occupied while we loaded the trailer. Snacks are just wonderful sometimes, aren’t they?

The week before we left, we got to visit Josh’s grandparents one last time. It was so great to see them; we miss you Grandma and Grandpa!

For Carson, moving in week was maybe even more fun than moving out. Empty boxes are the best!

It was hard on Carson a little bit too, of course. (Hard on all of us.) I think he did go through some anxiety in getting used to a new place, getting over the long drive (that was hard on him), and seeing lots of new people. But now that we’ve been here almost three months (wow, time flies!) we’re all settling in so well and really liking it more and more here. More posts on our new life in Colorado to follow!
