Fake Food Rocks

Does anyone else besides me think that fake food is just really, really cool? When I was a little kid, I liked playing with fake food – with the kitchen sets and grocery carts and especially the hamburgers, the ones you could piece together with the separate bun, patty, lettuce, pickle, and tomato pieces.

When I was a little bit older but still a kid, we moved a lot and Mom took me and my sisters to look at model homes a lot. My absolute favorite part about looking at model homes was seeing the fake food in the kitchen – the fake fruit (especially the grapes), the baguettes, the rolls.

Josh bought me a set of play food for Christmas a year ago (all my sisters thought we were having a baby – nope, it was just for me). And a little bit ago I was browsing some fake food web sites, and I came across these. Wow. How awesome are they? I decided that if I didn’t already work for the most awesome company in the world, my dream job would be working for one of these companies and making fake food. (My other dream job would be working for the I Spy guy and helping him create awesome dioramas to photograph.)

So anyway, the main purpose of this post is for me to have a list of some pretty sweet fake food sites. But, hey, now you know one of my weird quirky likes.

Dinner a Really Long Time Ago

So these pictures are really old…like, last October, I think, but I realized we never posted them. Every other Sunday, we try and have our siblings over for dinner. Josh’s brother Caleb and my sister Brenn joined us for dinner and then cupcake-making afterwards. We thought we’d try out a book Heather gave me for my birthday with the cutest cupcake decorating ideas I’ve ever seen: Continue reading

Tron Marathon

I guess Josh and I are both kind of geeky. That’s probably why sometime last year when we saw a preview for the new Tron Legacy movie, we were pretty excited. It’s a sequel for a 1982 movie, Tron, and neither of us had seen the original, but we have played this sweet game called Armagetron, which was based on the 1982 movie. (We have very fond memories of playing Armagetron with our siblings over holiday vacations, once at my house  until 3:00 am. Ahh, good times.)

Anyway, since we had so much fun playing the game, we hatched the idea for a Tron Marathon, which would include watching the original, playing the game, listening to the soundtrack, and then seeing the new movie in theaters.

The movie came out over Christmas break, and we were all ready for our marathon. On new Year’s Eve we watched Tron, the original. Hehe, we didn’t quite think it was a cinematic masterpiece, but I guess the special effects were pretty cool back in their day?

…yeah, maybe back in their day. Anyway, it was entertaining. And then after some fun rounds of Armagetron, we saw Tron Legacy in theaters, and it was pretty awesome. The premise and plot was similar to the prequel, just with special effects that were a whole lot cooler:

The best part is that seeing the first one made the second one way more enjoyable, in our opinion. We got little jokes and similarities we would have missed before (like the best line of the movie, “I fight for the users!”). It was a great movie experience.

Now we even have a Tron poster that Caleb bought us for Christmas. I guess we’re official fans!
