Yea for Joshua!

Wait, hasn’t there been a post with this same title before? ;-) Well, he deserves it! Recently we found out about another great step in Josh’s academic career – he got into the Master’s program! Woo hoo! It’s what we’ve been planning on and what he wanted, and (though I nor my parents nor his parents are surprised at all), it’s still nice to know for sure.

To brag on Josh some more, this is the Masters of Information Systems program at BYU – one of the top ten MISM programs in the country. It’s only open to a select number of students, and about half of those who applied got in. Way to go, Josh!

So what does this mean for our future? Well, Josh will start his senior year this fall, and during his senior year he’ll start taking some graduate-level classes. Then next fall (that’s fall of 2011), he’ll officially start the Masters program, which lasts one year. So then, in the spring of 2012, he’ll graduate with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s! Not bad, eh? (Just in time for the end of the world, too!)

Well, we’re both super excited and glad to know where we’ll be the next two years! And to celebrate, I made Josh a cookie cake (because he had never had one!). Usually I don’t think of myself as a very good baker at all, but I was actually pretty proud of this one – well, Josh liked it a lot and said it was delicious, which is what I care about. :-) Oh, and where did I learn my awesome cookie-cake decorating skills? That’s thanks to the summer I worked at the Great American Cookie Company in the mall. Oh, yeah.

Anyway, I’m super proud of Josh, so are we all! And most important, he’s happy and excited. So yay for life!

WE’RE GOIN’ TO DALLAS!

That’s right, we’re Texas-bound this summer! And why? Because Josh got an awesome internship there! He was looking into several places for a summer internship, but his top pick was Pariveda Solutions, an IT consulting firm based in Dallas, Texas. And thanks to Josh’s impressive resume and his great interview skills (but Josh says mostly thanks to helpful people in the firm and lots of blessings), he was the one intern selected from BYU to go! We’re super excited for the adventure ahead.

So details: the internship is June 21 to August 20, just about 9 weeks. Josh will be training, learning, and even visiting clients for the internship. (For all of who who don’t know what IT consulting is – ahem, like I didn’t before Josh explained it to me – basically it involves helping other companies run their information and technology stuff better.) He’s looking forward to learning a lot and trying out consulting first-hand.

And thanks to more awesome blessings and very nice employers, I’ll be lucky enough to work remotely while we’re in Dallas, hooray! That will be an adventure, too, but I’m excited for it. So all of the pieces are falling into place! Well, most all. Does anyone know of a cheap, already-furnished apartment in Dallas that will let us rent for three months? ;-) So, we’re not sure exactly how housing will happen yet, but we’re working on it.

So we feel very fortunate and very excited. And we’ll be able to visit our family in Texas over the summer! So often, Josh and I just look at our life and say, “How did this awesomeness happen to us?” We really do feel extremely blessed and we’re loving life. Stay tuned for updates about our hopefully successful housing search, and we’ll see you in Texas this summer!

Paige is a Grown-Up!

Hooray for Paige! She has arrived, in the sense of adult achievement: she has graduated from college with a fantastic degree and a minor and has turned that education into a great job at a fast-growing company. “For she’s a jolly good fellow, for she’s a jolly good fellow…” :-)

Paige's Done With School CakeAs of December 18th, Paige finished her very last final at Brigham Young University and completed her Bachelor of Arts in English Language with an Editing minor, and did so with flying colors. (Magna cum laude to be exact!) Congratulations Paige! Even though “official” graduation isn’t until late April, we had fun celebrating her completion with a fun cake, inspired by Cake Wrecks. So now she is a professional editor, writer, and English language expert, whew!

Paige on her first day of work
Paige on her first day of work. Isn't she so professional looking?

What’s better than graduating and getting your degree? Putting your degree to work in an awesome job! After speaking with a couple of representatives of a great children’s software company at a BYU career fair and working through a (slightly lengthy) recruiting and hiring process, she was officially hired just before we left for Christmas vacation, and she started after the New Year. She was hired as a writer, and has already written one children’s story that was illustrated and will be used in the software. She also works with different departments in facilitating language translations, writes blog posts geared towards the education market, and uses her design skills to work in InDesign and more. She really enjoys the job and her co-workers, and keeps busy helping the children of the world learn English!

So there you have it, Paige is all growned up now. I know Paige is awesome, you know Paige is awesome, so way to go Paige!

Pile of Stuff

Here for Another Year

I was browsing through some old pictures today, and I came across this one:

Pile of Stuff

We took it the night that we moved into our house, the one we’ve been renting now for over a year. Josh and I drove in from Colorado that night, with a car and a trailer full of wedding gifts, stuff, and furniture from our parents. That night we unloaded the car and trailer, dumped everything in a pile in the living room, and rolled out sleeping bags in the bedroom to sleep. It was fun to remember that night, and those first few days of being married, and how fun and happy they were. Now we’ve been married for over a year—wow, over a year! We’ve really enjoyed living in this house throughout it all, haunted dungeon and lack of AC included.

Well, we’ve known now for some time that our landlords (who are great and awesome) are planning on selling this house this summer, which has made us vey sad. We tried to be optimistic and look for a new place to live, though. But, happy day, we just found out that they’re actually delaying putting it on the market and want us to sign a contract for another year! Hooray for blessings! Josh and I know we’re so lucky, and we’re looking forward to another year in this great house!
