Vacations! So fun! Read about our exotic trips around the world (or at least around three of the states)

A few pictures from our trip to Texas

In this post I talked about our trip to Texas, when Josh went to Dallas for two weeks to train for his new job and Carson and I went to Houston to stay with my family. It was a great trip (and the best part was the weekend when Josh and I got to be together), and I just wanted to post these few pictures.

My mom got this baby pool before we came, and Carson really liked swimming in it. We probably swam almost every day we were there. Carson does like the water.

Carson liked swinging in this baby swing in the backyard, too.

And just some general Carson cuteness.

Remember I talked about how we went to the beach? This is his post-beach hair. :)

And finally, a precious mother/son moment. Cuddly moments like this with Carson are rare, and they usually don’t last more than about 15 seconds. But it’s sure nice when he does cuddle for a bit. :)

Beach day

This beach day happened back a month or so ago in Texas, when Carson and I stayed with my family for two weeks while Josh had his new job training in Dallas. It was the day before Carson and I flew home, and we went to Galveston beach with Jennie, Mom, and Shelby. And I’m so glad we did. It was definitely one of the best parts of the Texas trip.

We were only there for about an hour and a half later in the day, but it really was perfect for Carson. And he loved it! When we first got there he did a lot of poking at the sand and studying it intently, and then he got wet from the first little wave, but he liked the water and after he warmed up to the sand, he was all over the place! He crawled and crawled and crawled. I think he liked just having a wide expanse to crawl around in. Later I held him up and helped him step through the shallow waves, and he loooved that, too. Lots of laughs and smiles. My two fears (that he would eat the sand or hate the wind) were unfounded; he accidentally tasted sand once or twice and never went back, and he didn’t seem to mind the wind at all (though it gave him some pretty rad beach hair).

Here’s a ton of pictures…my mom basically followed Carson constantly, snapping picture after picture, and I’m so grateful. And Carson had a great time! Now I’m sad that we live so far from a beach… :( but we’ll have to make it back to one someday soon!

Airplane ride

Two weeks ago we flew to Denver to look for housing for our big move there in…just three weeks! Wow, so soon!

Anyway, I took this picture of Josh and Carson on the airplane and I love it. Josh is such an amazing father. Carson has so much fun with his dad and loves to be with him. Josh of course can make him laugh and smile, but Josh is the best at calming Carson down by far. He just holds him and Carson gets so calm and quiet. Thank you for being the best dad in the world, Josh! Carson and I are the luckiest people in the world to have you.

Christmas break

Christmas break was in Texas this year and was a blast. We loved seeing the Ellsworths and enjoying time off from school. The weather was really nice, too. A little rainy at first, but later sunny and so warm and nice (except for those few eerie foggy nights).

Anyway, let’s start with pictures!

First of all, isn’t he just the cutest baby ever?

 We sure think so.

Carson did awesome on the plane ride home from Houston, but he didn’t do so hot getting out there. We don’t blame him: it was a long day of travel with a five-hour layover in Denver (turns out we’ll do about anything for the cheapest fares). It was a long day for Carson and all of us, but we all survived. Here’s Carson on the first leg of the journey.

Carson also got his first haircut over the break. Nothing major, he just had some long stringy pieces that I trimmed. I’ve never cut anyone’s hair in my life, but I don’t think I messed up.

I got a haircut, too, from my sister Brenn. Well really, like 4 haircuts. She would cut it, and we’d both say, “Let’s go a little shorter.” Then she’d cut it again the next day or so. It was fun, and now I’m a whole new me! I’m liking the short hair.

We really liked seeing family over the break. Carson gave us lots of good laughs, especially for grandma, who just can’t wait until he can talk and play.

Carson also met his great grandma, my mom’s mom. We went to visit her at her new house in Houston.

There Carson also met Aunt Melissa, our number one blog fan. :) Thanks for always being the first to comment, Melissa! Melissa’s five-year-old son Byron got some great laughs out of Carson, too. Also, Byron is a Star Wars fan, and we are Byron fans. Yeah, Byron, Star Wars rocks!

Below: Mom and Jennie at Grandma’s house (and a great photobomb by Brenn).

And finally, we had one awesome sushi night, our last night in Texas. It’s kind of become a tradition when we all go home to make homemade sushi. This sushi night was probably the best of them all. I mean, look at all this deliciousness. We went all out. One of the best parts is how everyone gets to name the sushi roll they make. (My favorite name was Brenn’s Rick Asltey roll…get it? Rickroll!) We even had homemade fortune cookies by Jennie. (Yes, I fully realize that sushi is Japanese and fortune cookies are…well, American wanna-be Chinese, but, hey. Perhaps our sushi nights aren’t the most authentic, but they sure are tasty.)

It was a great, wonderful break. Very relaxing. And Christmas morning with Carson was probably the best of all. Even though he’s too young to do much besides grab for the pretty wrapping paper, having a kid on Christmas changes everything and makes it so much more special and fun.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s too!
