Our Haunted Basement

So it’s become a joke among Josh’s brothers that our house is haunted. Sure, we’re right across the street from a cemetery (and an abandoned building, for that matter…), and sure, our house is several decades old, and it was in pretty bad shape when we moved in, and, okay, our yard is dead…BUT everything’s looking better and better! Josh cut down the dead weed-trees blocking our back door, Paige cleaned out the creepy closed (nicknamed “The Chokey”) in the spare room, and, really, things just keep looking better and better. We feel so blessed to be in such a nice place.

But, if any part of our house is still haunted, it’s definitely our basement. Luckily we don’t have to go down there much–except to do laundry. Our washer and dryer are in the furthest, darkest, creepiest corner of the basement, in the little crypt-like area carved out of the rock itself, covered in dirt, and half finished. Eew, gross. And creepy. Very creepy. Doing laundry takes so much courage it’s an adrenaline rush (at least for Paige. And she makes Josh go down there at night. Too many dark shadows). So if you ever need a venue for a haunted house, or perhaps somewhere to stash a dead body buried pirate treasure, our basement’s the spot. It’s the favorite part of the house tour when our siblings come to visit.

Days Go By

Well, February came and went and we’re well into March! Life is just flying right by. We stay busy with school and work and happy with everything fun we do, so life (though fast) is great. We thought we’d try to catch you up on some recent highlights.

First, we had a great Valentine’s Day! That evening we had a new experience as we went to a married ward dance. We weren’t quite sure what to expect (sometimes in our minds we still picture married people as old and boring), but it was actually really fun! We had a blast dancing the night away (well, at least the couple of hours we were there…)

This weekend we had a treat as Paige’s sister Brenn and her cousin Ashley were in town over spring break. On Sunday we had them over for dinner, as well as Audrey and Josh’s brother Sam. Everyone helped out by bringing food (and chairs, since we only have three of them), and we had a great time eating food, making crepes for dessert, and playing games. There was lots of laughter involved, and we all left very full. Sunday dinners with family are the best!

Finally, it’s March in Utah, but the weather has been great lately! We’ve had several weeks now of sunshine, warm weather, and cool nights. It’s so great! We are excited for spring to finally come. But with the warm weather and melting snow we did realize something about our yard…or really lack of yard. As the last snow melted, we realized with dismay that our front “yard” consists of dirt, weeds, clumps of spikey grass, and taller weeds…but, alas, no grass. One day as we were coming home we stopped to chat with our neighbor, who eventually asked us, “So, are you going to do anything about your yard…?” Well, haha, looks like we’re the neighborhood eyesore! It’s going to be one of our spring projects, should our landlord agree to help us out.

Well, that’s the news from the Lyman home. We hope life continues to be this good, because we’re really happy and we feel really blessed. Hope you all have had a great month as well!

All Moved In

Well, it finally happened! After a few weeks of slowly getting things done, we’re proud to say we’re all moved into our new house! (Well, just about.) For a long time we had a pile of stuff on our living room floor, and then we graduated to a pile of stuff in the back bedroom…but now, finally, all the piles of stuff have been taken care of, everything’s moved in, and we even hung up pictures and curtains! We love our new house, and we feel really lucky to have a such a nice place to live. There’s still a long list of home improvements we want to work on (like fix the hole in the back door–see attached picture), and our kitchen floor still consists of two rugs (due to the water damage that happened over the break), but we love our house!
