I guess Josh and I are both kind of geeky. That’s probably why sometime last year when we saw a preview for the new Tron Legacy movie, we were pretty excited. It’s a sequel for a 1982 movie, Tron, and neither of us had seen the original, but we have played this sweet game called Armagetron, which was based on the 1982 movie. (We have very fond memories of playing Armagetron with our siblings over holiday vacations, once at my house until 3:00 am. Ahh, good times.)
Anyway, since we had so much fun playing the game, we hatched the idea for a Tron Marathon, which would include watching the original, playing the game, listening to the soundtrack, and then seeing the new movie in theaters.
The movie came out over Christmas break, and we were all ready for our marathon. On new Year’s Eve we watched Tron, the original. Hehe, we didn’t quite think it was a cinematic masterpiece, but I guess the special effects were pretty cool back in their day?
…yeah, maybe back in their day. Anyway, it was entertaining. And then after some fun rounds of Armagetron, we saw Tron Legacy in theaters, and it was pretty awesome. The premise and plot was similar to the prequel, just with special effects that were a whole lot cooler:
The best part is that seeing the first one made the second one way more enjoyable, in our opinion. We got little jokes and similarities we would have missed before (like the best line of the movie, “I fight for the users!”). It was a great movie experience.
Now we even have a Tron poster that Caleb bought us for Christmas. I guess we’re official fans!
